Alert for SCAM phone calls and emails

Submitted on Tuesday, 18th April 2017

Recently, we have received a number of calls from members advising us that they are being contacted by unidentified people claiming to be from ‘VCCI’ and asking businesses if they are moving.  These calls are not from the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and are nuisance calls from unidentified persons using our old name as a way of getting businesses to reveal information.

We have notified the ACCC of this scam so they are aware of it and ask that you do the same if you receive one of these calls.

Tips to handle these type of calls:

Callers are identifying themselves as from ‘VCCI’; we do not use our old name when identifying ourselves when we call.  All calls originating from us will be identified as calling from the Victorian Chamber of Commerce.

When receiving any Victorian Chamber communications, please ensure that they have been sent from a @victorianchamber email address.

Ask the caller to provide your member ID.  If they are unable to do so, take a note of the phone number and hang up.  Please report the scam to ScamWatch (https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/report-a-scam) and provide them with details of the call you just received.
