Advancing Victoria’s youth employment

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is inviting you to have your say to help boost employment opportunities for Victoria’s youth.

The Victorian Chamber will be targeting specific industry sectors for input from members over the coming weeks as it forms its policy and advocacy priorities in the lead-up to the State Election in November.

Youth unemployment in Victoria recently stood at 10.6 per cent, higher than the national rate of 10.1 per cent and a slight increase on the previous reporting period.

The Chamber is looking for input on how youth can be part of the solution to ongoing skills shortages, projected skills shortages in emerging industries, and how we can engage everyone in the labour market during times of record low overall unemployment.

It’s critical for us to hear from members about the challenges and opportunities that should be considered.

The Chamber would like to receive responses to questions such as the following:

  • Why do you think young people may struggle to enter into the labour market and employment?
  • How can Victoria get more youth into employment and lower the youth employment rate?
  • Who is really good at supporting youth into employment?
  • What else needs to be considered?
  • What would help you hire a young person?

To provide your thoughts, discuss this further or arrange a meeting, please contact the Victorian Chamber’s Policy and Advocacy team at policy@victorianchamber.com.au before Wednesday 22 June, 2022.

In the coming weeks we are issuing consultation callouts to discuss Victoria’s:
