The Creative State strategy, which outlines targeted actions and incentives to strengthen and grow Victoria’s creative industries was being finalised in March this year before the coronavirus pandemic disrupted and shut down most of the creative sector. The development of the strategy was paused to focus on the acute and immediate impacts facing Victoria’s creative workers, businesses and organisations.

As Victoria takes important steps towards a COVID Normal and beyond, and as we look to the recovery, reopening and rebuilding of our creative industries, the development of a bold, sector-informed, state-wide strategy is more vital than ever.

A key objective of VCCI’s State Budget submission is to reclaim Victoria and Melbourne’s global reputation as the best place to live and do business. The creative industries were among the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and have been unable to operate most of the year. There is still great uncertainty as to when some key sections of the industry, such as events, will be able to fully reopen.

VCCI has been a long-term advocate for the creative industries and will provide input on behalf of our members. We invite you to contribute by telling us about the impact COVID-19 has had on your work, your needs, priorities and concerns, and your ideas for the future via the survey below.

These insights will help us develop a clear message to government on exactly what Victoria’s creative sector needs to survive and thrive.
