Fans starved of the event during COVID-19 are set to return with an estimated crowd of 125,000 to 130,000 attendees on both the Saturday and Sunday.

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) has overseen a significant transformation of the event on and off the track after a two-year hiatus.

Drivers will race on the recently modified and resurfaced track around the Albert Park lake after undergoing its first upgrade since being laid in 1995.

In addition to the on-track action, ticket holders can enjoy incredible trackside entertainment, live music and food and wine experiences from the some of the biggest names from Victoria’s famed restaurant scene.

Five new fan precincts – Melbourne, Phillip Island, Grampians, Yarra Valley and the Great Ocean Road – will showcase the very best of Victoria in 2022.

The event provides a major boost for the local economy, with visitors flocking to Melbourne from around not just Victoria and Australia but also the rest of the world.

The circuit build and pack down takes 16 weeks and supports more than 2,500 jobs over about 400,000 hours of work.

The circuit upgrade created 500 jobs across 85,000 construction hours.

The world-renowned four-day event beams images of Melbourne and Victoria’s regions into millions of homes around the globe.

While the Melbourne race won’t open the Formula 1 season this year, momentum for the event will be steadily growing as the teams make their way from races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

AGPC CEO Andrew Westacott told the Victorian Chamber that the Grand Prix will rekindle the events scene in Melbourne, with Australia’s biggest pop-up sporting event coming to fruition after 12-24 months’ planning with a bill “that has never been this big”.

“The Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix not only signals to the world that Victoria is open for business, but it also solidifies Melbourne as the country’s home of major international events,” he added in a statement.
