Contribute to the future of Victoria’s OHS laws and workplace safety through the Victorian government’s independent OHS review and the Victorian Chamber Occupational Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation Working Group (OHS & WC Working Group).

We are seeking your thoughts about how WorkSafe can improve the way it administers Victoria’s OHS laws for inclusion in our submission to the independent OHS review

This review, commissioned by the Victorian government, will ensure that WorkSafe's information, policies and activities support compliance and enforcement of safety standards in Victorian workplaces. The panel will review WorkSafe’s compliance and enforcement policy and activities; and its effectiveness in providing OHS compliance information and promoting OHS awareness, education and training.

In particular, we would like your feedback on the following questions:

  1. How easy do you find it to access the information you need on the WorkSafe website or by phone? How could these services be improved?
  2. How would you rate your experience dealing with Worksafe inspectors? Have they been constructive and helpful in providing assistance to address problems?
  3. Have you been subject to enforcement action that you believe to be harsh or unreasonable, for example, a prohibition notice, enforceable undertaking or prosecution? Do you think that current penalties are appropriate?
  4. How well does WorkSafe promote awareness of OHS laws and how to comply? Do you think WorkSafe should provide more targeted assistance to particular businesses, for example, particular industries or start-ups?

OHS & WC Working Group

The OHS & WC Working Group allows you to give your opinion about OHS legislative changes (including the current development of the 2017 Victorian OHS regulations) in Victoria and nationally.

The Group will meet quarterly and receive monthly communications to discuss these changes and contribute to the development of new and updated compliance codes, codes of practice and other guidance materials. You are also invited to give your views on various publications and statistics published by WorkSafe Victoria and Safe Work Australia.

To take part in the OHS review or the Working Group, please contact Phil Lovelock, senior OHS consultant and policy advisor on 03 8662 5161 or email plovelock@victorianchamber.com.au by Tuesday 19 July.
