The $10 million Skills Solutions Partnerships (SSP) program facilitates collaboration between government, industry, and education providers to design and pilot innovative short training courses to rapidly address workforce skills gaps in priority sectors.

The SSP will enable the co-design of short training courses that:

  • upskill, re-skill or develop new workers
  • include an on-the-job learning model (such as a placement or work-integrated learning component) to support training participants’ employment and/or progression outcomes
  • offer a new training solution, or an innovative new approach to existing courses where the current offering is not adequately meeting employer or training participants’ needs.

Priority industry sectors for the SSP include clean economy, construction, digital, healthcare and social services, and manufacturing.

The Victorian Chamber helped develop the SSP through consultation with the Victorian Government at various stages during the development of the program, with our insights shaping the final program design.

Victorian Chamber Chief Executive Paul Guerra said: “This groundbreaking initiative, unveiled by the Hon. Natalie Hutchins, Minister for Jobs and Industry, aims to bridge skills gaps in priority areas by bringing together government, industry, TAFEs and dual-sector universities.

“The Victorian Chamber’s Policy and Advocacy Team played a pivotal role in shaping this innovative program, providing valuable industry insights throughout the development process.”

Minister for Jobs and Industry Natalie Hutchins added: “Many of our fastest growing industries are experiencing critical skills shortages – our Skills Solutions Partnerships Program will connect these industries with passionate, work-ready local students to fill the gaps that are blocking their growth.”

Expressions of Interests can be made from 21 November 2023 to 15 March 2024 unless funds are allocated earlier.

Projects identified as being suitable for SSP funding will be invited to submit a grant application for funding of to up to $1.2 million to develop, deliver and evaluate the pilot projects.
