Online series to help regional business COVID-19 recovery

01 February 2022

After multiple postponements as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry supported by Crown Melbourne has announced its highly anticipated Regional Business Recovery Roadshow will become a free online series. The business recovery sessions will include practical information for farmers, suppliers and producers on how to respond to tenders and understand the decision-making criteria for large hospitality vendors. The Victorian Chamber will also brief attendees on our Federal and State Budget submissions and our visitor economy policy platform.

Hosted by Victorian Chamber Chief Executive, Paul Guerra, participants will hear from Crown Group General Manager - Procurement and Supply, Ben Briggs, or Crown Group Head of Procurement – Good Purchasing, Thomas Tuszynski, and Victorian Chamber Manager – Advocacy and Campaigns, Rebecca Burdick Davies. Attendees will also have the chance to have their questions answered via a live Q&A.

As the principal partner of the roadshow, Crown says being involved in the VCCI Regional Business Recovery Roadshow is critical for its business, as it relies heavily on a strong local Australian business supply chain; with more than 94 per cent of its spend on produce going to Australian suppliers, and 88% of those being Victorian suppliers. Crown Melbourne spends approximately $641 million annually across 2,881 Victorian businesses.

Registrations are now open for participants to take part in either session on Thursday 10 February from 12pm - 1pm or Tuesday 15 February from 9am – 10am.

“Partnering with VCCI was a natural extension of our support for Australian business. With over 94 per cent of our total spend going to local Australian businesses, ensuring our pipeline of suppliers for our business is key. These local businesses help us to source the very best local, interstate and international produce available, so that our guests can enjoy a truly world-class experience at our resorts.

“Consumers are also telling us that buying local is important too – we’ve seen a big and well documented swing with Victorians wanting to support Victorian produce and suppliers. With the ongoing impact of COVID-19, we hope that initiatives like this from VCCI bring new opportunities to regional Victoria and help our state move forward.”

“The impact that the COVID-19 pandemic and Omicron variant outbreak has had on our regional businesses has been devastating and we look forward to continuing to helping businesses recover.

“Our regional food bowl is renowned not just domestically but also globally, and  opportunities like these highlight the strength and reliability of our regional businesses at a time of global uncertainty and shortages.

“This double election year is going to be an extremely important one for policy-shaping and the Victorian Chamber would love the opportunity to brief our regional members on our advocacy in this area.”
