The Victorian Chamber’s Selling to Government Series has been helping members understand the opportunities available for businesses of all sizes to get involved in supplying State Government projects and how to take advantage them.

Construction for North East Link, Victoria’s largest ever road project, is on track to start in 2020 and now is the time for local businesses to register to get involved. The project has committed to making sure at least 90 per cent of all North East Link Project workers, suppliers and materials are local.

Register at the ICN Gateway with your areas of interest and capabilities: gateway.icn.org.au/project/4055/north-east-link

Construction businesses, register with the Construction Supplier Register at: www.dtf.vic.gov.au/infrastructure-investment/construction-supplier-register

Plumbers, electricians, building trades, roof services, landscapers, form workers, carpenters, bricklayers and concreters are just some of the businesses encouraged to register their interest.

There will be opportunities for traffic management services, training providers, safety gear suppliers, air-conditioning and heating services, surveying and mapping services, engineering design and consulting, architects, office administration and mechanics.

Manufacturing industries and producers of cement and lime, ready mixed concrete, asphalt, electric cables and switches, are also being sought as well as businesses who hire out construction-related machinery and equipment.

As we get on with a massive pipeline of major projects, we look to put local jobs first - so put your hand up now to help build North East Link said Minister for Transport Infrastructure, Jacinta Allan. Early works will be starting soon so there are opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses to get on board now. A consortium to design and build the massive project will be selected by the end of the year, and they will also need to show how they will create local jobs and training opportunities. As part of the Local Jobs First Policy, 10 per cent of total work hours will be done by apprentices, trainees or cadets. Apprenticeship Support Australia, as part of the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry can help you recruit, train and retain apprentices and trainees.
