Following a closed-door meeting on Monday 29 March 2021, the Shadow Cabinet attended an informal morning tea, held by the Victorian Chamber together with a number of members.

(L-R): VCCI Chief Executive Paul Guerra, VCCI President Karyn Sobels, Leader of the Opposition Michael O'Brien.

Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) President, Karyn Sobels, and Chief Executive Paul Guerra, welcomed shadow cabinet members and business leaders, reflecting upon the important role that the opposition plays in supporting Victorian business and industry.

Paul also mentioned the importance for VCCI and the State Opposition to continue to work together on policy formulation through ongoing stakeholder engagement.

Mr O’Brien spoke about the role of the Victorian Opposition in scrutinising the policies and actions of the Victorian Labor Government as well as to offering an alternative policy choice for Victorian voters and businesses ahead of the November 2022 election.

(L-R): Leader of The Nationals Peter Walsh, Deputy Leader of The Nationals Steph Ryan, VCCI Chief Executive Paul Guerra.

Mr O’Brien also commented on the Victorian Government’s imposed restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic having serve and debilitating implications on Victoria’s economy, and the lack of consistency and transparency around key government decision making on state-wide lockdowns.

With the Victorian State Election scheduled for November 2022, it was a timely opportunity for members to meet and hear from Shadow Ministers in relevant sectors on their vision and individual portfolio objectives.

The facilitation and access to these events by the Victorian Chamber, are one of the many benefits open to members as part of the policy and advocacy offer of their VCCI membership.
