Parliamentary inquiry into labour hire licensing required

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcomes the Victorian Parliament’s close scrutiny this week of the Labour Hire Licensing Bill 2017.

While the bill was passed in the Legislative Assembly in a vote on Thursday, the Coalition’s opposition to the bill is welcomed and signals an urgent need to re-examine this proposed scheme through a parliamentary inquiry.

VCCI says Westgate Tunnel must proceed for the good of all Victorians

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry calls for all parties to support the Westgate Tunnel project proceeding without amendment or delay.

Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Mark Stone AM said suggestions that the Opposition or Greens may attempt to delay the project or alter its funding would be disastrous for the state’s economy, and the convenience and liveability for so many living in the state’s west.

Victorian Chamber supports proposal for Cross Border Commissioner in Victorian border towns

The Victorian Chamber today welcomes a commitment from the Liberal Nationals to install a dedicated Cross Border Commissioner to identify issues faced by Victorian border communities.

Changes to the Victorian Chamber Executive team in 2018

I am delighted to announce two new people to the Victorian Chamber executive team this year.

Dugald Murray is the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s new Executive Director Public Policy and Corporate Affairs and Felicia Mariani is the new Chief Executive of the Victoria Tourism Industry Council.

Dugald joins the Victorian Chamber from the Nous Group, where he was a Director and responsible for leading diverse teams to provide strategic, economic, policy, management and organisational change analysis and advice.

Additional 27 VLocity diesel railcars to be built in Victoria

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Melbourne Chamber of Commerce are pleased that an additional 27 VLocity diesel multiple unit railcars will be built in Victoria.

We welcome the recent announcement that technology leader Bombardier Transportation will build and deliver the railcars for Transport for Victoria and the Victorian State Government.

This brings the total fleet to 264 railcars in passenger service by 2019.

These award-winning trains will be manufactured locally in Dandenong, supporting over 600 jobs in the region.

Victorian Chamber expects compliance with Supreme Court order to end blockade at Webb Dock

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry expects an immediate end to illegal industrial action at Melbourne’s docks impacting thousands of businesses.

Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Mark Stone AM said yesterday’s Supreme Court order issued to unions to abandon the blockade was welcomed by Victorian businesses, many of which are reliant on receiving their goods before Christmas.

West Gate Tunnel a priority infrastructure project for Victoria

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry today welcomes the signing of contracts to build the West Gate Tunnel.

Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Mark Stone AM said the West Gate Tunnel will provide many benefits for Victoria.

“This vital $6.7 billion project is a longstanding priority of the Victorian Chamber and we are delighted that our advocacy has been successful in this area,” he said.

Victorian Chamber welcomes new President of Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jeremy Johnson

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry today congratulates Jeremy Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of The Sovereign Hill Museums Association, on his appointment as President of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Mr Johnson is a current member of the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Executive Council and was previously President from 2008 to 2010.

Victorian businesses outline priorities ahead of 2018 State Election

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Victoria Summit today set the business agenda for all political parties in the lead up to the State Election, with keynote addresses from Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and Leader of the Opposition Matthew Guy.

Following a series of workshops held all around Victoria, the Victorian Chamber identified 26 priority recommendations, out of a total of 125 policy recommendations it is releasing today ahead of the 2018 State Election.
