Keeping up to date in safety

Submitted on Wednesday, 9th May 2018

Join the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the 2018 SIA National Health & Safety Conference and the Workplace Health and Safety Show on 23 and 24 May where we will deliver three engaging presentations on challenging safety topics.

At the SIA National Health & Safety Conference, Anton Zytnik, Senior Health Safety and Wellbeing Consultant, will discuss cognitive bias and its impact on the way we manage safety. His presentation, Cognitive bias & safety: How to think clearly about risk, highlights systematic errors in the way we analyse past events and manage future risks.

Learn what we tend to blame people for accidents rather than focusing on gaps in our safety systems. Discover the difference between actual and perceived risk, and why safety professionals must fight an uphill battle against complacency. Anton will provide practical advice on how to recognise and manage bias in ourselves and others, and methods to limit the impact of bias on critical decision-making.

Anton will be speaking on 23 May from 12.15pm to 12.45pm.

The Victorian Chamber will also run two interactive events at the Workplace Health & Safety Show's Live Theatre. Register for this free event that runs concurrently with the SIA National Health and Safety Conference.

The Victorian Chamber’s Workplace Relations Team are experts in investigating complex bullying claims. Join us at Bullying: How Well Are You Conducting Your Workplace Investigations? for an interactive discussion with Amy Bell, Principal Consultant and Thomas Page, Senior Consultant as they discuss the do’s and don’ts of bullying investigations. Participants can also participate in an interactive Q&A with the speakers.

Amy and Thomas will be speaking on 23 May from 12.30pm to 1pm.

Concept Safety Systems (CSS) (in partnership with the Victorian Chamber) has changed the way that companies deliver emergency management services. At Mixed Reality in WH&S and Emergency Management, CSS will walk you through their online emergency management system, demonstrating its digital floorplan technology, online fire and evacuation training and site induction module. Attendees will have a chance to participate virtually in an emergency fire scenario, demonstrating their system’s unique emergency management capabilities.

CSS will be presenting on 23 May from 1pm to 1.30pm.

The Victorian Chamber will have an exhibition stand at the Workplace Health & Safety Show so feel free to stop by and talk with one of our experienced consultants about our range of training and consulting services.

The SIA National Health and Safety Conference and the Workplace Health & Safety Show will be held on 23 and 24 May 2018 at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.
