Why we developed this program

The Diploma of Project Management BSB51415 has been designed to equip participants with the essential knowledge, skills and attributes required to work effectively in project management roles that require conceptual, operational and supervisory capabilities.

It is suitable for participants demonstrating or indicating potential to undertake vocational education and training at diploma level, who should posses a level of Project Management knowledge and work experience.

  • Project or program administrator
  • Experienced managers who are already managing projects in an organisation and wish to have their skills formally recognised
  • Individuals requiring formal project management qualifications for promotion or other employment opportunities
  • External consultants experienced in Project Management who wish to gain a formal qualification

Enrolment Requirements

As this qualification requires participants to apply and practice the new skills over a period of time, and also to base their assessment solutions in a workplace environment, it is highly preferable that candidates are employed or otherwise engaged.

  • 18 years of age
  • Due to the practical nature of this course, it is highly recommend that participants are employed or otherwise engaged*
* Assessment assistance may be provided if this requirement cannot be met

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for the Diploma of Project Management.

Preferred pathways for participants considering this qualification include:

  • After achieving the BSB41515 Certificate IV in Project Management Practice or other relevant qualification; OR
  • With extensive vocational experience in project roles where they may have had some limited responsibility for the output of others, and without a formal project management qualification.

Candidates seeking entry based upon their vocational experience or for workplace enrolment should generally be in job roles including:

  • Project Coordinator
  • Project Management Officer
  • Project Team Member
  • Project or Program Administrator
  • Experienced managers who are already managing projects in an organisation and wish to have their skills formally recognised
  • Individuals  requiring  formal  project  management  qualifications  for  promotion  or  other employment opportunities
  • External  consultants  experienced  in  Project  Management  who  wish  to  gain  a  formal qualification

Pathways to completion and further studies

Pathways to completion of this qualification include:

  • Course attendance and assessment
  • RPL/Credit transfer for partial or full qualification
  • A combination of the above

Units completed in this program may be credited towards other qualifications through a national recognition process.  After achieving this qualification participants may undertake BSB61215 Advanced Diploma of Project Management or other advanced diploma qualifications.

Graduates with the Diploma of Project Management are eligible for Associate Membership with the Australian Institute of Project Management, and may also become eligible for full membership in the future. (Conditions apply)

Workshop Delivery Schedule

One day per fortnight over 11 weeks 

Assessment

Assessment tasks must be submitted within twelve months from the last unit delivery date. This schedule allows for a reasonable time for workplace practice and assessment preparation. Participants should allow approximately 10 hours per week to complete the self-directed learning and assessment tasks.

The assessment tasks for the units in this qualification require participation in complex projects, as well as access to workplace documentation used to document and manage projects and to a number of project stakeholders.  Therefore, workplace application is desirable to ensure that competency to the standard required by this industry sector has been attained.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available upon enrolment.

Payment

Payment must be received following the approval of your registration form to secure a place in a course. This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding. 

Eligibility for a Government Subsidised Place under the Skill First Program 2018

To be eligible for government subsidised training, applicants must be:

  • An Australian citizen; or a holder of a permanent visa; or a New Zealand citizen; AND
  • A resident of Victoria for the duration of the course; AND
  • Aged 18-19 (i.e. under 20) years of age on 1st January in the year of the course commencement; OR
  • Aged 20 years or over on 1st January in the year the course commencement, and you are enrolling in a qualification that is at a higher level than your highest qualification held (‘upskilling’);

Other eligibility criteria

In addition to meeting the above requirements, an individual is only eligible to:

  • Commence a maximum of two government subsidised courses in a calendar year, including if one of the subsidised courses you’re enrolled in is scheduled to commence later in the year;
  • Undertake a maximum of two government subsidised courses at any one time;
  • Commence a maximum of two government subsidised courses at the same level in your lifetime

Pre-Training Review

Part of the enrolment process, Victorian Chamber must conduct a Pre-Training Review of current competencies including language, literacy and numeracy skills. The Pre-Training Review must:

  1. identify any competencies previously acquired (Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) or Credit Transfer);
  2. ascertain the most appropriate qualification for each student to enrol in, including consideration of the likely job outcomes from the development of new competencies and skills; and
  3. ascertain that the proposed learning strategies and materials are appropriate for each participant

Participants are required to download and complete the  Pre-training review and evaluation and submit it together with the Registration Form and any other necessary documents. Feedback will be provided within two weeks from your course Registration being approved.
