The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry congratulates Mr Johnson for his contribution and dedication to regional Victoria and the Victorian business community.

Under Mr Johnson’s leadership, Sovereign Hill has played a significant role in driving economic growth in Ballarat and regional Victoria. An independent study found that Sovereign Hill contributed $259.9 million and 1,665 jobs to the Victorian economy in 2015-16.

Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Mark Stone AM said Mr Johnson has successfully elevated the status of the Victorian tourism and events industry both in Australia and internationally.

“Mr Johnson’s commitment to business excellence and innovation has cemented Sovereign Hill’s reputation as an iconic tourism attraction in Australia. Sovereign Hill is a drawcard for international visitors and promotes Victorian regional tourism to the world,” Mr Stone said.

In the last few years, the organisation has won numerous awards, including four consecutive Gold Victorian Tourism Awards in the Major Tourist Attraction category, and was inducted into the Victorian Tourism Hall of Fame for a second time in 2016.

Sovereign Hill has also shown leadership in developing the Chinese inbound tourism market by employing Chinese-speaking guides, establishing an office in China and running fashion design competitions for students across the region.

“Sovereign Hill’s success is a testament of Mr Johnson’s energy, commitment and leadership. On behalf of the Victorian Chamber, I congratulate Mr Johnson for his invaluable contribution to the tourism, events and business sectors in Victoria,” Mr Stone said.

Mr Johnson leaves Sovereign Hill with record visitation numbers and in a strong economic state which will allow the organisation continue to thrive and prosper.

As an advocate of Victorian business, Mr Johnson will remain on the Executive Council of the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and will continue his role as President of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
