Last week, the Victorian Chamber was pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Guerra as our new Chief Executive Officer.

Most recently CEO of the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria, Paul has an accomplished record leading significant Victorian organisations, with seven years as Chairman of the Queen Victoria Market.

He also has strong links to international business, including senior executive positions in the health and telecommunications sectors across Asia Pacific.

Paul will assume the role early next year, and after eight years as Chief Executive, I will step down at the end of 2019.

On behalf of myself, our President Don Rankin, our Board and Executive Council, we welcome Paul and wish him all the best in leading the Victorian Chamber and Victorian businesses into the future.

In other news, we have been continuing to work closely with the Government, Opposition and Parliamentarians on the development of new workplace manslaughter laws - stressing the need for these laws to have safety as their number one objective and be workable, proportionate, fair, support continuing collaboration on safety and avoid unintended consequences.

Finally, we recently launched our Victorian Chamber Presents: Cyber Security event, to be held on Wednesday 30 October at the Sofitel on Collins.

Prominent cyber security expert, Alastair MacGibbon, will join us as keynote speaker, followed by a panel of experts in cyber security to discuss how cyber threats can affect businesses. The panel will talk about important topics like reputational damage, breach response strategies, client impact and the new legal and mandatory reporting requirements.

We hope you can join us to learn how to protect your business by increasing your cyber resilience. Tickets can be booked via the Victorian Chamber website, at victorianchamber.com.au.

Thank you, and I wish you a great week ahead.
