The Victorian Chamber was proud to recently launch ‘Vital to Victoria,’ our Health Industry Taskforce report.

The culmination of work by the state’s top health industry leaders and experts, the Taskforce identifies six key priority areas where industry and governments can work together to ensure this important sector remains competitive.

A big thank you to Taskforce Chair, Group CEO of Epworth HealthCare, Dr Lachlan Henderson and all involved in this comprehensive piece of work.

The adoption of the Health Industry Taskforce’s recommendations will enable Victoria’s $30 billion health industry to raise productivity and capitalise on its strengths as a high-quality provider of health products, services and expertise to grow jobs and exports.

Last week, the Victorian Government introduced a new workplace manslaughter law to Parliament.

With fines of around $16 million and up to 20 years jail for employers responsible for negligently causing death, it is vital that the Parliament gets these laws right.

The new law must be workable, proportionate and avoid unintended outcomes that put business viability and jobs at risk.

The Victorian Chamber is proposing a number of vital improvements to the bill and will be working closely with the Government, Opposition and Cross Bench to ensure these laws deliver improved workplace safety outcomes.

Finally, this week we were pleased to launch Insights Lab, the Victorian Chamber’s special content series on topics and themes impacting businesses in Victoria.

Each special series features insights from thought-leaders in industry, Parliamentarians and policy experts

The first theme is Selling to Government, which will help members understand how they can benefit from the $34 billion the state spends on goods and services each year. I encourage you to visit our website and read part one of this informative series.

I wish you all a good week ahead.

Thank you.
