24 January 2022

The Victorian Chamber is pleased to extend an invitation to our members and clients to participate in a design workshop to help identify innovative and practical education approaches to improve equality in the workplace.

The Victorian Chamber is working with the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission to develop practical resources to help support small and medium businesses (SMEs) to become leaders in gender equality in the workplace. Business experience, ideas and input are invaluable to shaping this pay equality initiative.

As Victoria navigates the many challenges presented by COVID-19, a prominent issue being faced by business is skills shortages, with many seeking to improve their practices on how to attract new and diverse talent. However, for SMEs in particular, knowing where to start or how to improve their workplace practices when it comes to gender equality can be overwhelming.

Your participation in these workshops will help inform the development of important resources to help make workplaces more attractive to a diverse range of applicants.

About the workshops

The sessions are taking place in mid-February. Register now.

The three-hour workshops will:

  • Involve a wide range of SMEs from different sectors across the state
  • Be held online and run for three hours, with breaks
  • Require no preparation in advance.

A $50 stipend will be available for each participant.

Outcome

As a result of the workshops, it is anticipated that a range of inclusive, empathetic and tailored education products for SMEs will be developed and tested by the Commission. You will be invited to participate in user testing if interested.

Background

In 2020, Industrial Relations Victoria requested the Commission conduct research into equal pay within small-to-medium size enterprises (SMEs). A link to the report can be found here.

With funding from the Victorian Government, the Commission is now developing educational resources to implement key recommendations of the report. This includes supporting SMEs to build their understanding of equality at work and the economic and workplace diversity benefits to embedding equal pay.

If you would like to discuss your participation, we encourage you to reach out to Laura Smith, the project lead at the Commission, at laura.smith@veohrc.vic.gov.au.
