Chief Executive Update 03 November 2022

03 November 2022

With the Melbourne Cup run and won, the focus now turns to another race - the Victorian Election on November 26. The official campaign began yesterday and the Victorian Chamber released the first of a series of advocacy videos to promote our State Election Platform, Powering Victoria’s Future.

Thank you to the Vice Chancellor and President of Swinburne University of Technology Professor Pascale Quester, CEO of the Queen Victoria Market Stan Liacos, Co-founder of Sunified Michael Anthony, and Head of Sales at Titomic Dominic Parsonson, for providing such strong voices on behalf of Victorian business. You can view the video here and we would encourage you to share it across your social channels.

Various parties have already adopted more than a third of the 61 recommendations in Powering Victoria’s Future and we will keep a close eye on the campaign and regularly update our Policy Scorecard which you can view here. This is an important piece of work as it holds the different parties accountable and also enables our members to view what each party stands for.

Over the coming weeks we will also be speaking to a number of members about what’s important to them on our new podcast, Business Voice. This week’s episode will feature the Vice Chancellor of the University of Melbourne, Professor Duncan Maskell and Sean Sammon from the York Park Group. Find it wherever you listen to podcasts.

It was pleasing to see the joint effort between the Australian and Victorian Governments to deploy $877 million recovery support package to help businesses, farmers and not-for profits impacted by the recent floods. For full details on what is available and eligibility criteria, visit vic.gov.au/2022-flood-recovery. For support with payments, clean-up or any other flood issues, Victorians can contact the Flood Recovery Hotline on 1800 560 760.

It has been wonderful to see so many people out at Flemington. Melbourne’s weather has lived up to its reputation but the wet conditions didn’t dampen the spirits of the thousands who attended Derby Day and the Melbourne Cup. I have every confidence that Oaks Day will be just as enjoyable and the weather looks perfect for those heading along to Stakes Day.

Finally, the Victorian Chamber is a proud supporter of ‘The Longest Day’, a golf marathon that raises money for the Cancer Council. Corporates are encouraged to enter a team of two or more people to play either 36, 54 or 72 holes in a day. You can find more details and register at longestday.org.au.

Have a wonderful week.
