Chief Executive Update 08 February 2024

08 February 2024

I am proud to announce the release of our 2024-2025 Victorian Budget Submission. This comprehensive document, shaped by extensive industry consultation and survey data, presents 44 policy recommendations.

The Chamber’s State Budget submission advocates for bold transformation, a halt to additional costs, regulatory burdens, taxes and levies, and programs to empower the private sector to propel our economy to prosperity. You can find the full list of recommendations on our website, and thanks to all of you who contributed through surveys, roundtables and discussions.

If you would like to understand more about our Submission, register now for our free Overview Webinar on Friday 23 February, hosted by our Executive Director Policy and Advocacy, Amelia Bitsis and myself.

By now you will have read about the IR changes that have approval to go through Federal Parliament. Fair to say the impact on business will be significant and pose new challenges. We are planning a series of full updates, so stay tuned on when and how to get the insights you will need.

It was great to see 800 attendees at our recent Fixed Term Contract webinar, where our Workplace Relations team addressed more than 70 inquiries about the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Secure Jobs, Better Pay) Act 2022. Keep an eye out for announcements on similar briefings throughout the year, as we remain committed to keeping our members and clients informed about legislative updates.

Our calendar is filling up with engaging events. I am eagerly anticipating our one-day regional Chamber Change event in Geelong, featuring guest speaker Rosie King OAM.

Registrations have also just opened for our “From Commitment to Action: The Journey to Net Zero” event, where industry leaders will discuss the challenges and opportunities that the transition presents. It’s shaping as one of the biggest issues for our State and I urge you to get involved. Save the dates for our upcoming Business After Dark at Marvel Stadium and the Australian Grand Prix Breakfast, both promising unforgettable experiences.

On Sunday night from 10pm, the Victorian Chamber’s Chief of Staff Chanelle Pearson and I will feature on the newly relaunched Sunday Celebrations on RSN radio, hosted by Salvation Army Major Brendan Nottle. We look forward to chatting about the challenges and opportunities facing the business community this year.

Lastly, I am honoured to be a guest speaker at Ross Stevenson’s annual Love Letter to Racing fundraiser at Flemington Racecourse on Saturday, 17 February. I urge you to book tickets and join me along with other guest speakers, crime reporter John ‘Sly’ Silvester and MMA and UFC fighter, Jack Jenkins. It’s a great opportunity to support the Ronald McDonald House Charity and enjoy a day out at the track.

Have a wonderful weekend!
