After having many recent conversations throughout the membership and wider business community, I’ve drawn a conclusion that confidence seems to be down, and that it’s time for the Government to embrace what the private sector can bring. You can expect to hear more about this very soon. It’s my view that collaboration between the private sector, the education sector and the Government will turbocharge the growth that is required for the State.

I also want to share information about two strategically important, upcoming international business events, being hosted by our Melbourne Chamber member, Melbourne Convention Bureau.

The Asia Pacific Offshore Wind and Green Hydrogen Summit 2023 is taking place August 29 – 31, providing attendees with opportunities to engage with the region’s top-level government officials, private sector leaders, and civil society representatives, all focused on driving the uptake of offshore wind and green hydrogen in the APAC region.

There’s also the Global Entrepreneurship Congress on September 19 – 22. Participants from more than 200 countries will be working together to build one global ecosystem of innovation and economic growth.

Current registration for both events show a significant international attendance including senior government officials and international industry leaders, offering unique business, advocacy, and professional development opportunities in our own backyard, and I encourage all members to head along!

I’m particularly looking forward to our upcoming Victorian Chamber Presents lunch, which celebrates entrepreneurship and innovation across the state with keynote speaker, Minister for Industry and Innovation, Ben Carroll MP, and an expert panel including Dr Kate Cornick, CEO of LaunchVic, Professor Colin McLeod, Executive Director of the Melbourne Entrepreneurial Centre, and Tien-Ti Mak, General Manager of Strategic Innovation at Transurban.

I’m very much looking forward to attending the Herald Sun Bush Summit as a panellist in Wodonga next week.

I’ll be talking about “Business Resilience” in the areas of investment in the bush, innovation and growth in regional communities, and protecting regional economic interests through the funding of essential infrastructure. Few things get Victorians more excited than a world class sporting event. The anticipation building around the country is palpable as we continue to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our Matildas. We wish Sydney every success with the incoming grand final… but we all know Melbourne is where it belongs!
