Chief Executive Update 31 August 2023

31 August 2023

I was incredibly proud today as our President Adrian Kloeden hosted a lunch to celebrate the Victorian Chamber’s 25 years of involvement in supporting Apprenticeships in Victoria. It was an honour to be joined by so many members and esteemed guests at Crown Melbourne for Apprenticeship Support Australia’s (ASA) 25-year celebration luncheon, including our guest speaker, the Hon Brendan O’Connor MP, Federal Minister for Skills and Training.

A quarter of a century of dedication, empowerment and skill-building have transformed the lives of countless apprentices and businesses and today’s event paid tribute to ASA’s achievements as an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network Provider.

Since 1998, the Victorian Chamber has had an unwavering commitment to ASA as a Services Provider. Contracted by the Australian Government, the key focus is on making it easier for apprentices and their employers to engage with the apprenticeship system and support them through to completion of their formal training.

Apprenticeships are the foundation of the Vocational Education and Training sector and apprentices are the future of Victoria’s workforce.

Our intention is to continue to have a substantial impact in supporting apprentices and employers throughout the apprenticeship and ensuring the scheme delivers the pipeline of skilled workers that industry needs.

And just by the way, if you are thinking of taking an apprentice or trainee on as part of your team, be sure to check in with us as we can most certainly help.

As you know, the Victorian Chamber is committed to providing data led policy, and you, our members and clients, are our greatest resource.

To that end, I encourage all of you to complete our 2023 Victorian Business Pulse survey – the results of which will help us advise, inform and advocate to governments on critical issues such as workplace wellbeing, cyber security, cost of doing business and growth opportunities. Your input will certainly be appreciated.

On completion of the survey, you can go into the draw to win one of three digital Mastercards valued at $500 each. You have until Sunday 10th September to have your say, and I thank you in advance for your time in helping us shape the future of business in Victoria.

I’d like to remind you about the Global Entrepreneurship Congress on September 19 – 22, hosted by our Melbourne Chamber member, Melbourne Convention Bureau. Participants from more than 200 countries will be working together to build one global ecosystem of innovation and economic growth. Senior government officials and industry leaders from across the globe will be in attendance offering unique business, advocacy, and professional development opportunities in our own backyard and I encourage all members to head along!

Our Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive, Andrew McKellar, will be joining ABC’s Patricia Karvelas on the Q+A panel on Monday September 4, where he will be discussing the Federal Government’s proposed industrial relations law changes and their impact on business. If you would like to be a part of the live studio audience, register using the following link and ensure your priority selection by identifying the Victorian Chamber in your response to the last question “How did you hear about us”: https://www.abc.net.au/qanda/studio-audience/

There’s a certain magic that comes with the arrival of Spring in Melbourne. With Spring Racing Carnival upon us, the excitement of footy finals, and other events, festivals, and outdoor activities in full swing, it is the perfect opportunity to revel in Melbourne’s vibrant spirit. As the days grow longer and the weather becomes more inviting, I encourage you to explore all our State has in store.

Have a wonderful weekend, and I hope all the dads have a fabulous day on Sunday!
