Last week, the Victorian Chamber was pleased to partner with RMIT University for a second consecutive year to deliver yet another successful event in our ignite series.

Over 150 members of the business community joined us for ignite+RMIT to hear experts discuss the University’s varied approach to navigating the complex challenges ahead in the healthcare and social services sector.

Given the staggering projection that by 2022 one in four new jobs will be created for this booming sector, it is critical that skills shortages within this field are addressed and a higher level of training is delivered.

Intuitive businesses are already starting to upskill their staff and implement new business models and products which deliver customer-centric innovation. Initiatives such as ignite+RMIT help bridge the gap between research and commercialisation - emphasising the potential opportunities and benefits that can occur when businesses and research institutions collaborate.

Stay tuned for details of the next event in our ignite series, partnering with Victoria University on Friday 19 July.

In other news, this week we were delighted to host almost 200 members for a business breakfast featuring guest speaker Josh Frydenberg MP, Treasurer of Australia and Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party.

The Treasurer provided his insights on Australia’s economic performance, growth prospects and challenges. He spoke about measures in the recent Federal Budget that will support business and jobs creation including an extension of EMDG funding, employer apprenticeship incentives and the expansion of the instant asset write-off scheme.

Next week, we look forward to congratulating the winners of the 2019 Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame Awards, held in partnership with the State Government on Tuesday 14 May.

In line with National Manufacturing Week, the theme of this year’s awards is Industrial Evolution. The awards highlight the strength and diversity of manufacturing in Victoria and celebrate companies and individuals who excel in business innovation and productivity, and who contribute to strengthening the State’s economy. We offer our congratulations to all finalists, including Victorian Chamber members Air Radiators, Amiga Engineering, Holden Special Vehicles, Integra Systems, Safetech and Melbourne Chamber member, Bombardier Transportation Australia. We hope to see you on Tuesday for the manufacturing industry's night of nights.

On a final note, the Victorian Chamber Member Survey is now available for you to complete. As valued members, we encourage you to provide your feedback. The survey should take approximately ten minutes and all responses will remain confidential and will not be attributable to you.
