Secured by our Melbourne Chamber member, the Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB), the Summit will bring more than 1,000 delegates to Melbourne for discussions aimed at advancing the uptake of offshore wind and green hydrogen production in the region.

The three-day conference provides an opportunity for Victoria to showcase our credentials in wind energy and green hydrogen to other governments, renewable energies bodies and industry leaders from the APAC region.

With an ambitious renewable energy target of 95 per cent by 2035, Victoria has taken steps on early consultation to be the home of Australia’s first offshore wind farms.

The APAC Offshore Wind and Green Hydrogen Summit joins the strong calendar of business events secured by the MCB for 2023, including the Rotary International Convention, which will bring around 14,000 international and national visitors to Melbourne next month.

Melbourne Convention Bureau CEO Julia Swanson said: “We are thrilled to have secured this high-profile business event for Melbourne, which highlights the role business events play in supporting Victoria’s commitment to sustainability.”

Victorian Chamber advocacy

The securing of the Summit aligns with the Victorian Chamber’s campaign to support businesses’ transition to a net-zero economy, Achieving a Net-Zero Economy: Roadmap for Victorian Businesses.

The campaign focuses on three core objectives: reducing energy prices, ensuring the reliable supply of energy, and supporting businesses transition to a net-zero economy.

In support of the Roadmap, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), a strategic partner of MCB, documented on its own journey towards net-zero, including reducing its own environmental footprint and responsibility to host events that stimulate thought leadership around issues of sustainability and social impact.

The Chamber was also pleased to recently host Victorian Minister for Climate Action, Energy, Resources, and State Electricity Commission Lily D’Ambrosio to discuss the road forward for Victorian businesses and communities in the State’s energy transition.
