Housing shortages and affordability issues are an increasing issue for individuals and families across both regional and metropolitan Victoria. Rapid population growth, limited housing availability and supply chain problems for new builds have created a significant demand-supply gap in the State, putting pressure on regional communities. This has led to increased homelessness rates and is making it increasingly difficult for first-time buyers and low-income earners to enter the market.

The housing availability shortage is also increasingly problematic for employers. This is especially apparent in regional areas, as lack of suitable housing has made it more difficult to attract employees. This issue is also constantly raised through roundtables and engagement with members in Metropolitan Melbourne. Housing shortages not only impact individuals’ quality of life but have wider social and economic implications for our entire community. The Victoria Chamber is dedicating to providing solutions to this pressing issue.
