Alstom is teaming up with the Apprenticeship Support Australia (ASA), part of the Victorian Chamber, and diversity organisation Empowered Women in Trades (EWIT) on a special introduction into train manufacturing at its Ballarat facility.

The Empowered Women in Trades x Alstom Ballarat Tool Skills Day welcomes any woman or non-binary person aged 16 and over to join on Friday November 24 from 9:30am to 2.30pm.

EWIT works with educational institutions and industry leaders to increase women’s roles in learning the trade skilled required for people and industry to thrive.

The event delivers:

  • Positive psychology & human skills: Kick-start the day by acknowledging we are out of our comfort zones. Learn some tools for engagement and communication.
  • Site visit: Pass through the doors and into a world you didn’t know existed. See how pieces of the manufacturing jigsaw fit together.
  • Hands-on tools activities: We’re the type of learners who learn best by doing. This is a chance to explore trades associated with manufacturing in a hands-on environment.
  • Pathways into trades: Learn about HOW to kick-start your career into trades. Whether it’s entry level roles, traineeships or apprenticeship you can ask all the questions.
  • Job opportunities: Alstom have a variety of local job vacancies; and this is your opportunity to get a foot in the door!

Alstom is a leading rail manufacturer that builds the trams and trains that service metro and regional Victoria.

They were awarded the Global Top Employer 2023 certification in Australia for the third year in the Asia Pacific region.

“Our sector needs to champion women to pursue a career in trades. In an industry that is male-dominated, the need for alternative insights, different perspectives and new ways of performing that come with gender diversity is evident,” said Pascal Dupond, Managing Director of Alstom Australia and New Zealand.

“We are proud to align with like-minded partners such as Empowered Women in Trades and the Victorian Chamber’s Apprenticeships Support Australia, on our collective mission to increase female participation in rail and provide more training and career development opportunities tailored for women and non-binary people.”

Nicole Brudenall, ASA Coordinator Women in Non-traditional Trades said: Apprenticeship Support Australia is proud to support this event. Backing women in non-traditional trades helps build better futures for individuals, businesses and communities. Diversity delivers a proven benefit for industry and the economy.”
