Premier Allan unveils new Victorian Cabinet

Victoria’s Premier Jacinta Allan has announced changes to the State Cabinet, with new ministers taking on roles in jobs, business and employment.

Premier Allan succeeded Daniel Andrews as Victorian Premier on 27 September 2023. Her new ministry will be sworn in on October 2 by the Victorian Governor.

Former Minister for Industry and Innovation Ben Carroll was announced last week as Deputy Premier. He will become Minister for Education and Minister for Medical Research, continuing Victoria’s work as a global leader in the sector.

Tim Pallas will remain Treasurer and Minister for Industrial Relations while taking on an expanded role as Minister for Economic Growth.

In employment and jobs-related portfolios, Natalie Hutchins will lead the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions as Minister for Jobs and Industry. She remains Minister for Women and becomes a Minister for Treaty and First Peoples.

Member for Eltham Vicki Ward will join Cabinet, becoming Minister for Employment. She is also Minister for Prevention of Family Violence.

Natalie Suleyman remains Minister for Small Business, Minister for Veterans and Minister for Youth.

In skills and development, Gayle Tierney will become Minister for Skills and TAFE. She will also become Minister for Regional Development, bringing her experience as a regional MP to support regional communities.

In infrastructure, Danny Pearson will become Minister for Transport Infrastructure and Minister for the Suburban Rail Loop, delivering the State’s key transport projects. He will retain his responsibilities as Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Worksafe and the TAC.

In events and the visitor economy, Steve Dimopoulos will retain his role as Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events – continuing his work to strengthen our visitor economy, while adding Minister for the Environment and Minister for Outdoor Recreation to his portfolio.

Also in environment and resources, Lily D’Ambrosio will continue to oversee Victoria’s energy transition as Minister for Climate Action, Minister for Energy and Resources and Minister for the State Electricity Commission.

In housing and planning, Harriet Shing will become Minister for Housing, while Sonya Kilkenny will retain her responsibilities as Minister for Planning and become Minister for the Suburbs. Colin Brooks becomes Minister for Development Victoria and Minister for Precincts, also adding Minister for Creative Industries to his responsibilities.

For other key industry roles, Ros Spence will become Minister for Agriculture and Minister for Carers and Volunteers, while Melissa Horne continues her logistics focus as Minister for Ports and Freight among other portfolios in Roads and Road Safety.

Opposition

Leader of the Opposition John Pesutto has also announced his new Shadow Cabinet team.

New Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Evan Mulholland, will become Shadow Minister for Home Ownership and Housing Affordability, as well as Shadow Minister for Outer Suburban Growth.

David Southwick will add the new Cost of Living portfolio to his existing portfolios of Major Projects, Transport Infrastructure and Trade and Investment.

Jess Wilson will become Shadow Minister for Early Childhood and Education and retain the Finance and Economic Reform and Regulation portfolios.

Bridget Vallence adds Tertiary Education to her current portfolios of Manufacturing, Industry, Innovation, Skills and Training.

Cindy McLeish will add Workcover and TAC to her current role as Shadow Minister for Small Business, Women and the Prevention of Family Violence.

David Hodgett will become Shadow Special Minister of State and Shadow Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations.

James Newbury will add Planning to his current portfolios including Environment and Climate Change.

David Davis will become Shadow Minister for Energy, Affordability and Security and Shadow Minister for the SEC.

Roma Britnell will add Child Protection to her current portfolios including Ports and Freight.
