Solving safety recruitment challenges with a targeted secondment

Quality safety professionals are hard to find. At the Victorian Chamber’s Health Safety and Wellbeing team, we understand the challenges involved when advising our members and clients on what to look for.

It’s difficult to find that elusive combination of industry experience combined with a personality who can truly lead safety and influence senior people.

That’s where we can assist employers of all sizes and industry types with targeted, short-term safety secondments to keep their workplaces safe while they take the time they need to find the right safety professional.

For example, a member engaged one of our consultants for three days a week over a five-month period to manage their safety function during a protracted recruiting process.

Some of the advantages of safety secondments are:

  • Our consultants are ready to go from day one – Upon successfully concluding a contract, we can hit the ground running, managing your day-to-day safety needs and have a positive impact from your culture
  • We can complete important safety projects – A safety secondment is also a great opportunity to complete important safety projects, such as getting your policies up to speed, building a safety management system, or revitalising your safety committee. Successfully recruiting safety professionals also includes retaining them. Bringing your new recruit into a well-organised, structured environment rather than a chaotic, neglected one could mean the difference between retaining your recruit and having to go through the whole process again in six months’ time.
  • We are versatile – Within the scope of the previously mentioned secondment, our consultant was also able to manage the member’s workers compensation to cover a period of parental leave. We were also able to implement a cultural change training program for the member’s managers, as well as setting up an incident reporting database all within the scope of the secondment.
