The Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Secure Jobs, Better Pay) Bill 2022

On Thursday 27 October 2022, the Federal Government introduced the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Secure Jobs, Better Pay) Bill 2022 to Federal Parliament.

The Bill includes measures intended to boost wage equity, increase the Fair Work Commissions power, and make bargaining more accessible. To achieve this the Bill proposes to:

  • Make gender equity an objective of the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth)
  • Establish an expert panel to manage pay disputes in the social and care sector
  • Increase the small claims limit for underpayment claims
  • Introduce a right to request changes to hours of work and work location
  • Prevent pay secrecy clauses in contracts
  • Change the Better Off Overall Test
  • Introduce multi-employer bargaining
