The Victorian Chamber supported AACC’s inaugural summit, which was due to be held on 10-12 October 2023.

With a vision to bring Africa to the forefront of the Australian trade and investment focus, the Australia Africa Business Summit 2023 was created to provide a unique opportunity to access key government representatives and private sector leaders, with the shared aim of building business between Australia and Africa.

AACC President Duncan Harris said the postponement was encouraged by several delegations from leading countries in Africa who suggested the event would be more productive if it took place in 2024, possibly in April or May.

“Simply put, the recent news of the African Union (AU) being permanently admitted as members of the G20 has proven to be both a blessing and a curse,” Mr Harris said.

“It significantly increased interest in the Summit but at the same time delegations from leading countries have advised that they would be better placed to attend in 2024 as matters of economics and politics become clearer under the new global framework.

“In consultation with our major partners and key presenters, namely Senator the Hon Don Farrell, Minister for Trade & Tourism, Commonwealth of Australia and Wamkele Keabetswe Mene, Secretary General, Africa Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat we have decided to postpone the event to a suitable date in 2024.”

AACC is working with venue partner, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, to secure a date and will communicate that as soon as possible.

All delegate bookings will be honoured, and refunds will be offered to those who can’t travel in 2024.

“We have been incredibly pleased with the interest from delegates, sponsors and presenters and our decision to postpone should be seen as nothing more than a step to accommodate our global partners,” Mr Harris said.
