The Federal Government has allocated $8.1 million over three years for a provider to deliver the new service to small businesses across metro and regional Australia.

The Small Business Cyber Resilience Service and support SMEs impacted by a cyber incident by providing free, tailored, person-to-person support during and after an attack to develop and implement a specific plan to improve their cyber security.

Once operating, small businesses impacted by a cyberattack will be able to contact the service to receive person-to-person support, including walking them through the steps that they need to take to recover. Additional case management support will also be available in the immediate aftermath of an incident.

The new service is a key part of the 2023–2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy builds on the $23.4 million Cyber Wardens Program and the $18.6 million Digital Solutions Program.

Applications for the grant opportunity close on Friday 26 April 2024.

Guidelines and applications for the grant opportunity are available via the Small Business Cyber Resilience Service.

Minister for Small Business Julie Collins said: “We want small businesses and their customers and the community to feel secure from cyber threats. We’ll continue to work hard to support small businesses, and ensure they remain at the heart of the Albanese Labor Government’s decision making.”

How the Victorian Chamber can help

The Victorian Chamber recognises the importance of, and has been an advocacy leader in, cybersecurity for business.

Last year we released a first-of-its-kind Cyber Security and Scams Policy Position with 24 pragmatic recommendations to protect small, medium and family businesses from cyber criminals, in a comprehensive cyber suite that included a Security Checklist and Self-Paced Training for businesses.

The Government fully or partially adopted 17 of our recommendations in its 2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy.

Businesses can further their cyber learning with the Victorian Chamber’s series of cybersecurity tips videos and self-paced learning course, Cyber Security Essentials for Business.
