Victorians encouraged to return to the office

02 September 2022

The Victorian Government has lifted its working from home recommendations and says Victorians can now safely return to the office.

Work from home recommendations were in place to help the health system and reduce transmission during the peak winter period. Department of Health advice notes this pressure and transmission risk has reduced.

Employers and staff can consider working arrangements that are most appropriate for their individual requirements.

Businesses or organisations with on-site operations and client interactions are advised to have a COVIDSafe Plan which is regularly reviewed and up to date.

Employees who develop COVID-19 symptoms must still test and stay home.

Isolation periods have been reduced to five days depending on one’s symptoms.

All Victorians are still encouraged to be up to date with vaccinations, wear a good-quality face mask when in an indoor space and unable to socially distance and maintain good ventilation indoors.

The Victorian Chamber welcomes the announcement and says it will boost the Melbourne’s CBD economy.

Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Paul Guerra said: “This is a positive step that clears the way for Victorians to safely return to the office now that winter is over and the COVID-19 peak has passed.

“It will also provide a welcome boost for Melbourne’s CBD and regional cities as we head into spring. This will give Victorians confidence to embrace both business and social opportunities again.

“We strongly encourage businesses to have the conversation with their staff and make appropriate arrangements.”
