Throughout early 2022, the Victorian Chamber has been encouraging businesses to review their employment contracts, practices and alerting them to the support available.

We invite members to join our latest webinar in which Victorian Small Business Commissioner, Lynda McAlary-Smith, and the Commissioner of Wage Inspectorate Victoria, Robert Hortle, will present on how their organisations can help businesses get on the right track for 2022.

Ms McAlary-Smith will walk through the protections and supports you might be entitled to under Victoria’s extended Commercial Tenancy Relief Scheme and explain how the Victorian Small Business Commission can help you to avoid and resolve commercial disputes.

“We offer a wealth of easy-to-navigate guidance and practical resources to unpack the Scheme’s regulations – from help in determining if you’re eligible to letter templates that take the guess work out of requesting rent relief,” said Ms McAlary-Smith.

“We also offer practical tips to help you avoid getting into a dispute, information on your retail leasing rights, and free and impartial mediation to help you and your landlord negotiate a fair rent relief agreement.”

Under the Wage Theft Act 2020, Mr Hortle is responsible for exercising the duties, functions and powers of the Wage Inspectorate under the legislation it enforces.

He will provide an overview of Victoria’s new wage theft laws which aim to address deliberate and dishonest underpayment of wages and entitlements. He will also explain how wage theft differs from honest mistakes and outline the free information and support available from his office.

“We’re here to provide businesses with easy-to-access information about the laws we advise on and enforce. I’m looking forward to speaking with employers about how we can help them, and to sharing information about Victoria’s wage theft laws,” said Mr Hortle.

“The wage theft laws introduce no new obligations on businesses and are designed to stamp out exploitative practices and level the playing field for employers doing the right thing.”

The Victorian Chamber has a role to help our members to ensure they understand the requirements and have confidence their employees are receiving the correct rates of pay and entitlements.

The free webinar will take place on 23 February 2022 from 12:00pm - 12:45pm and will include a moderated Q&A session with the presenters via written chat.
