Does your business have a digital technology problem which needs to be solved or a technology-related idea that you’d like to explore and develop?

For many small to medium sized businesses, it is difficult to find the time and resources to implement digital solutions and keep on top of the day-to-day pressures of running a business.

The SummerTech LIVE program helps Victorian businesses to upskill their digital capabilities and solve technology-related problems by facilitating studentships with senior level Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tertiary students and recent graduates.

For the students, it is an opportunity to gain work-ready skills and kick start their careers. The program offers a $5,000 studentship for 10-12 weeks over the summer break.

There is no cost to businesses. SMEs will need to provide in-kind support including a mentor/contact person for the students and a workstation and all the necessary tools for the students to do their job.

Funding of up to $1,000 per project will be provided to participating tertiary institutions to support the educational mentors working with the students.

The SummerTech LIVE studentship includes:

  • A challenging technical problem for the students or recent graduates and businesses to solve that provides business insights and meaningful outcomes
  • Two students per project
  • An academic staff member from the education partner to act as supervisor, provide technical expertise and liaise with the students and business
  • A dedicated mentor from the business who has the time available to collaborate on the project
  • Meaningful paid work experience for the students offering opportunities to develop creative thinking, problem-solving abilities, and job-ready skills
  • A tripartite agreement will need to be entered by the education partner, business and the students detailing Intellectual Property conditions, expectations on the outcomes of the project and the hours committed by the business, supervisor, and student(s).

The scope of the project will be determined by the academic supervisors and businesses. Projects usually span between 10-12 weeks to allow enough time for the project to be delivered.
